Inspection/Intervention
We have applied for a US Patent for our Seachest Access Trunk. This allows Diver and ROV access to the seachest interior for screen cleaning, seachest maintenance and seawater suction plugging without exposing the Diver or ROV to the sea. For drillships, this means the vessel can stay on station and drilling during seachest maintenance.
We have spent the last 15 years trying to advance ship husbandry by reducing downtime and removing divers from harms way. Below is a video of an internal spade system developed to prevent the need for overboard plugging. If overboard plugging is required, we have designed, fabricated and installed plugs up to 22″/0.6m using hand launched ROVs.
This video was prepared to demonstrate the concept of using a threaded spade to do a ‘controlled’ change for an in-service ship. It was prepared for a particular project and was sent to the Chief Engineer. Hence, the references to Chief in the dialogue.
This concept is scalable to almost any size valve, though the engineering and planning become more critical as the valve size and water depth increase. Alternately, an ROV placed plug may be used. I can help with either of these approaches.
